Project

The project i financed by SLF, Partnerskap Alnarp and Äppelriket Österlen. It is a collaboration between different actors on the market and has been running since 2008. It is planned to be ended in the beginning of 2012.

News

During 2010 we will mainly work with development of different forecasting models for the different tortricid species.

Updates
During 2010 we will try to update and maintain the homepage frequently with new information regarding the project. That means biology, activity, damage to flowers and fruit and other useful facts. We appologise for any delays or errors on the homepage during this period.

Goals within the project

Development of web based forecasting models for tortricids in apple to reduce the amount of pesticides used in fruit orchards.

To create a sub catalog system for the web to easily adapt the tool for other pests and crops.

By the use of interviews, study what factors are of importance for the development of forecasting systems at a farm level.

To build up knowledge in all levels of the spectrum by collaborative tasks between growers, advisors and researchers.

Short summary of the project

According to EU directives on integrated pest management growers must base plant protection measurements on scientifically well-founded monitoring and forecasting systems. We apply for funding for development of web-based monitoring systems for tortricid moths in orchards. It is a pilot project within the field of integrated pest management. Swedish fruit production is challenged, both by strong international competition and a comparatively limited access to insectides. It is thus a good model for development of new, efficient monitoring systems. The knowledge obtained in the project, both concerning the technical development of web-based monitoring systems but also concerning the growers´ attitudes to new pest management strategies, can easily be adapted for application to other pests and cropping systems. The project is a collaboration with growers, a grower organization and the Swedish Board of Agriculture (SJV).
